Between dream world and table art
With RÊVERIE, FÜRSTENBERG is focussing on a quiet form of poetry. The new decor by Parisian designer Dimitri Rybaltchenko shows cloud formations floating in deep blue, from which animals emerge on closer inspection: foxes, weasels, butterflies, deer. Some seem familiar, others as if from another time, another place. They appear casually, almost by chance – and are reminiscent of those childhood moments when you looked up at the sky and began to interpret it. AURÉOLE, the reduced form of porcelain, becomes the canvas for these motifs, which move between visibility and invisibility.

The scenery remains deliberately ambivalent. What initially appears to be pure ornamentation eludes a clear interpretation on closer inspection. It is neither illustrative nor abstract, but plays with perception, memory and association. This creates a field of tension between craftsmanship and imagination. The graphic design never appears decorative in the classic sense, but almost atmospheric – as if the sky were covering the surface without dominating it. It is not about effect, but about mood. Even the colour scheme – a bright yet deep blue – is not ornamental, but narrative. Movement seems to take place between the shades without anything becoming concrete. The motifs remain part of the porcelain: not applied, but inscribed.

In addition to teapots, cups, plates, bowls and platters, two vases complete the ensemble. They also carry the decor – not changed, but consistently continued. The form remains simple, the expression restrained. Like all the pieces in the series, they don’t tell a story, they let it be told. The service is dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe and robust enough for everyday use – but these facts take a back seat. Because RÊVERIE is not intended to possess, but to accompany. What remains is crockery that is not intended to shine, but to accompany conversations. RÊVERIE does not create an eye-catcher, but a resonating space. Porcelain that listens more than it speaks – and therefore remains in the memory.
