Fendi – A fashion house with tradition and innovation

Fendi is one of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world, known for its luxurious and creative collections. But how did it all begin? And how has Fendi evolved over time? In this article we will tell the story of Fendi, from its beginnings as a fur and leather goods store in Rome to its current position as a global fashion brand.

Fendi was founded in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, who opened a small store in Via del Plebiscito where they sold furs and leather goods. The couple had five daughters: Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda, who all joined the family business. The Fendi sisters expanded the business, opening new stores in Rome and other Italian cities. They were also responsible for introducing new techniques and materials in fur processing, such as the use of dyes, prints and cuts.

In 1965 began one of the most important partnerships in the history of Fendi: the collaboration with the young designer Karl Lagerfeld, who was appointed creative director of the brand. Lagerfeld revolutionized Fendi’s image by designing the famous double F logo and turning fur into a fashionable and versatile accessory. He also created the first ready-to-wear collections for Fendi, inspired by Roman culture and dolce vita.

In the following decades, Fendi expanded internationally, opening boutiques in major fashion capitals such as Paris, New York and Tokyo. The brand also diversified its offer, launching new product lines such as shoes, eyewear, perfumes and watches. Fendi became a symbol of elegance and quality, worn by many celebrities and members of the jet set.

In 1999, Fendi became part of the LVMH Group, the world’s leading luxury group. This allowed Fendi to strengthen its presence in the market and continue to pursue its creative vision. In 2001, Silvia Venturini Fendi, daughter of Anna Fendi, was appointed creative director of accessories. She is the creator of some of Fendi’s most iconic bags, such as the Baguette, the Peekaboo and the Kan I.

Today, Fendi is more than just a fashion house: it is an institution that combines tradition and innovation. With its unique aesthetic and craftsmanship, Fendi has shaped the world of fashion and will continue to do so in the future.
