Mercedes-Benz is bringing “Automatic Lane Change” to Europe as an intelligent further development of the SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems, also known as Level 2+. The company is currently working on adapting the function to the specific traffic situations in Europe. The market launch is planned as soon as the first units of the new E-Class are delivered. The “Automatic Lane Change” function is supported on highway-like roads with lane markings and separate lanes.

Highly automated driving at SAE level 3

With DRIVE PILOT, Mercedes-Benz offers the world’s first and only system for highly automated driving at SAE level 3. Customers can hand over the driving task to the system in certain situations on suitable stretches of freeway in heavy traffic or in congested situations. The DRIVE PILOT will be available in Germany for the S-Class and EQS models in May 2022. Mercedes-Benz has also received approval for the use of the DRIVE PILOT in the U.S. states of California and Nevada. The market launch in the USA is planned for the 2024 model year.
