Mori Hanae is one of Japan’s most famous and influential fashion designers. She was born in Tokyo in 1926 and studied at the prestigious Tokyo Women’s Christian University. She showed an early interest in fashion and began designing and sewing her own clothes.
In 1951, she opened her own atelier in Tokyo and named it Hanae Mori. She specialized in elegant and feminine clothes for women, often inspired by Japanese culture and nature. She used high quality fabrics such as silk, lace and brocade and decorated her creations with embroidery, beads and feathers.
Mori Hanae is the first Japanese fashion designer to become internationally recognized. She presented her collections in Paris, New York and London and became a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. She dressed many famous personalities such as Sophia Loren.
Mori Hanae is considered a pioneer who combines tradition and modernity. She incorporates elements of Japanese aesthetics such as kimonos, origami and butterflies into her western cuts and silhouettes. She created a unique style that exudes elegance, sophistication and creativity.
Mori Hanae retired from the fashion business in 2004, but her legacy lives on. She has been awarded numerous prizes, including the French Legion d’Honneur. She also established a foundation that supports young fashion designers. Mori Hanae is an icon of Japanese fashion who has inspired generations of women.
