Otto Kern – The man who revolutionized fashion


Otto Kern was one of the most famous and successful fashion designers in Germany. Otto Kern was born in Nürtingen on February 8, 1950. He initially studied business administration at the University of Mannheim, but dropped out to pursue his passion for fashion. He traveled extensively to Italy and France for inspiration and to make contacts.

In 1970, he founded his own company, Otto Kern GmbH & Co. KG with headquarters in Kaiserslautern. He initially designed shirts for men, which he marketed under the brand name Otto Kern. In the following years, he expanded his range to include other clothing items such as pants, sweaters, jackets, coats, suits and accessories. It reflected the taste and attitude to life of a generation that was self-confident, independent and cosmopolitan.

Otto Kern was not only a gifted designer, but also a skilled businessman. He built up an international distribution network and licensed his brand to various partner companies.
