A Living Legend of Photography
The world-renowned American photographer Ralph Gibson is coming to Cologne! On Saturday, June 28 at 12 PM, he will be signing his new book Photographs 1960–2024 at the TASCHEN Store Cologne (Neumarkt 3, 50667 Cologne) – a powerful retrospective of over six decades of visionary image-making.
Gibson is one of the defining voices in American postwar photography. Since the 1960s, his name has stood for a kind of photography that interprets rather than documents – situated somewhere between dream and reality, light and shadow. Whether nudes, still lifes or surreal street scenes: Gibson’s images are visual poems. Iconic series such as The Somnambulist, Déjà-Vu, or Days at Sea have inspired generations of photographers.
Gibson began his career as an assistant to Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank before opening his own studio in New York. He has received prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Today, his work is featured in the world’s most important collections.
