The photobook *Tina Turner by Peter Lindbergh* brings together around 150 photographs from a decades-long artistic collaboration. Peter Lindbergh accompanied Tina Turner not only during concerts, photo shoots, and video productions but also in quiet moments away from the spotlight. The result is not a linear portrait, but a loosely composed visual narrative – captured in Paris, Los Angeles, Deauville, and the Mojave Desert. The large-format layout with fold-out pages and restrained design puts the visual impact at the center and allows for a focused look at the icon beyond the stage.

At the heart of the book are Lindbergh’s photographs and his personal relationship with Tina Turner. Texts by Erwin Bach, Dian Hanson, and Eric Godtland add context to the images without interpreting or glorifying them. Hanson strikes a balance between intimacy and editorial distance, while Godtland takes a more curatorial perspective. Lindbergh’s gaze remains clearly present: he wasn’t interested in spectacle, but in authenticity. His images portray Tina Turner as a strong woman – not as a projection screen, but as a person with contradictions, resilience, and humor.

Today, the book feels like a quiet counterpoint to the polished world of celebrity culture. It shows an artist who never conformed, and a photographer who always put humanity above staging. Especially in retrospect, now that both are no longer alive, the book gains a sense of depth. It is not idealized memory, but an intimate record of two people who were artistically and personally connected. Or as Tina Turner herself put it: “We were partners in crime. He was willing to try the impossible – just like me! Together, we made magic.” Anyone interested in visual storytelling beyond likes and filters will discover a quiet yet precise signature here.
